The winter session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe starts in Strasbourg
The winter session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe begins in Strasbourg, during which hearings will be held regarding Ukrainian prisoners of war, journalists, and civilians being held in Russia. Meetings are also planned to discuss the situation with Ukrainian children and Europe's role in ensuring peace in Ukraine. In particular, resolutions on 'The need for a renewed international order based on rules' and 'Multidimensionality in memory and historical education for democratic citizenship' will be discussed.
Former Kremlin prisoners and Ukrainian MPs will speak at the session
This session will include meetings featuring former Kremlin prisoners and three Ukrainian members of parliament. Committee chairs will report on the missing, support for political negotiations, and efforts to secure the release of Ukrainian journalists. Olena Khomenko, a member of parliament, will chair the PACE parliamentary network meeting dedicated to the situation of Ukrainian children. The Ukrainian delegation has also proposed to hold debates on Europe's role in ensuring a fair peace in Ukraine.
Participation of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe and other officials
The session will also feature the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, and the Chair of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. Additionally, there will be an event dedicated to European youth policy during the war.
Completion of the session and approval of the agenda
This session will last until January 31, and the final agenda will be approved by delegates from 46 member countries of the Council of Europe.
