The US federal government has stated that it plans to use more resources, personnel, and technology to detect unknown drones that have appeared over the state of New Jersey.

This information was provided by US Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas.

He explained that some of the drones that people saw were indeed unmanned aerial vehicles, but others were manned aircraft that were mistaken for drones.

However, Mayorkas confirmed that the problem with unidentified drones exists and called on Congress to expand the powers of state and local authorities to address this issue.

The Secretary of Homeland Security referred to a law that enhances the oversight of the Federal Aviation Administration over unmanned aerial vehicles and grants states more authority to investigate such cases.

'We want state and local authorities to also have the ability to combat the increasing drone activity under federal oversight,' said the US Secretary of Homeland Security.

Recently, flights of unidentified drones have been reported over 'sensitive' sites, such as military installations and critical infrastructure, in the state of New Jersey.

The government claimed that there is no threat to people, but the Pentagon and the Federal Bureau of Investigation have been unable to determine who is behind these drones.
