Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina advanced to the quarter-finals of the WTA 1000 tournament in Indian Wells. This was reported by 'Glavkom' citing BTU.

In the round of 16, Svitolina defeated the fourth-ranked player in the world, Jessica Pegula from the USA.

Elina Svitolina avenged her recent loss to the American at the tournament in Doha and narrowed the gap in their personal encounters (3-5).

The match lasted two hours, during which the Ukrainian served five aces, committed seven double faults (Pegula had one ace and three doubles), lost two games on her serve, and made five breaks. It is noted that at the beginning of the decisive set (with the score 1:0 in favor of Svitolina) the game was stopped for several hours due to rain.

This season, Svitolina has defeated a top-5 opponent for the second Time (at the Australian Open, she was stronger than the fourth-ranked player Jasmine Paolini). Overall, in her career, she has achieved her 21st such victory (31 losses).

Elina Svitolina will play in the quarter-finals in Indian Wells for the second time in her career (she reached the semi-finals in 2019). Her next opponent will be Russian Mirra Andreeva.
