Oleksandr Khizniak Plans to Return to the Ring

Olympic champion Oleksandr Khizniak plans to return to the ring this year or at the beginning of next year. He continues to recover from an injury and states that he loves boxing very much. Oleksandr Khizniak is a well-known Ukrainian boxer, born and living in Poltava. He earned the nickname 'Poltava Tank' due to his fighting style. Khizniak is coached by his father Oleksandr Khizniak Sr.

Successes at the Olympic Games

In 2024, Khizniak won a gold medal at the Olympic Games in boxing, becoming the fourth Ukrainian to achieve such success. The last Ukrainian boxers to win gold at the Olympics were Vasyl Lomachenko and Oleksandr Usyk in 2012.

In the 1/8 finals of the Olympics, Khizniak defeated a boxer from Bakhmut, who is now representing Hungary. In the 1/4 finals, he confidently won against the Brazilian Wanderley Pereira. In a tough semi-final match, Khizniak defeated the Cuban Arlen Lopez Cardona, although the judges voted in his favor initially. In the Olympic final, Khizniak triumphed over the representative of Kazakhstan Nurbek Oralbay and became the Olympic champion.

Injury

After the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, Khizniak competed against the Brazilian boxer Eber Souza, but during the match, he received a knockout hit and could not continue the fight.
