The Chancellor of Germany met with the new President of the USA
According to a Reuters report, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz had a conversation with US President Donald Trump.
After the meeting, Scholz stated that he could reach an agreement with Trump on a joint strategy regarding Ukraine.
'I am confident that we can create a joint strategy for Ukraine. My main principle is that nothing can be decided without listening to the Ukrainian people,' he emphasized.
According to Scholz, the conversation with Trump was 'detailed'. He also noted that his team is in direct contact with the advisors of the new US president.
'It is important that the killings stop as soon as possible and that the independence and sovereignty of Ukraine are guaranteed,' emphasized the Chancellor of Germany.
The Guardian reports that Scholz refused to send long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine. According to him, strikes by Western weapons deep into Russia could lead to an escalation that 'must be avoided.'
Previously, Scholz announced a large support package for air defense for Ukraine.
