Ukraine has announced that Russia has involved between 140,000 and 180,000 individuals, who were in Russian prisons for various crimes, in the Russian-Ukrainian war.
This information is provided by the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine.
It is noted that starting from January 1, the Russian government has canceled the one-Time cash payment to prisoners who participate in the war against Ukraine.
'The legislative cancellation of the one-time payment is a sign of the exacerbation of crisis phenomena in the Russian economy and a lack of financial resources. Previously, prisoners received $1,718 under the contract. In July 2024, the payment amount was increased to $3,524. Now prisoners and their relatives will be deprived of a number of payments and benefits that are granted to participants of volunteer formations. Even the salaries of such individuals are two to four times lower than those of other occupiers,' the Foreign Intelligence Service reported.
In Russian prisons and colonies, there were approximately 300,000 to 350,000 prisoners in 2024, which is half of the number in 2014. This decrease is attributed to the Russian-Ukrainian war.
