The German Minister of Defense Boris Pistorius claims that the greatest threat to security is Russia, and Germany must strengthen its defense capabilities.

'Russia is fully transitioning its economy to military rails. Currently, the Russian Federation produces between 1000 and 1500 new combat tanks annually, exceeding the number of tanks of the five largest European countries combined.'

Pistorius emphasizes the need to restrain 'revisionist and imperialist Russia under the leadership of President Vladimir Putin.'

He also notes that the need for military deterrence and defense has never been more urgent, especially as the United States is likely to focus more on other regions rather than Europe.

Pistorius has introduced three bills aimed at ensuring the national and allied defense of the Bundeswehr without any restrictions in light of the new security threat.

Two of these bills concern the formation of a Bundeswehr brigade in Lithuania by 2027, which will consist of 4800 soldiers and 200 civilian personnel.

The third bill proposes amendments to the Military Criminal Code to prohibit the engagement of former professional and status military personnel in training foreign states that are not allies.

The bill also provides for the registration of professional military personnel and those who have served on a temporary basis to ensure the protection of military knowledge and information in the interests of the Federal Republic of Germany and its allies.
