Oleksandr Usyk defeats Tyson Fury in the rematch
On Wednesday, December 21, 2024, the long-awaited rematch took place between Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk and British boxer Tyson Fury. The two incredibly talented fighters fought for four prestigious world heavyweight champion titles under the WBC, WBA, WBO, and IBO.
Usyk has an impressive record: 22 wins, 14 of which were by knockout. Fury, on the other hand, has 34 wins, 1 loss, and 1 draw. Usyk defeated Fury on May 18, 2024, allowing him to become the undisputed world champion.
The Ukrainian boxer relinquished the IBF title, moving on to the winner of another match. However, this did not prevent him from achieving victory even without this title. The fight ended in a unanimous decision, where Usyk won with a score of 116-112.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky congratulated Oleksandr Usyk on his victory, emphasizing its importance for the country. According to the President, this success demonstrates the position of the Ukrainian people - to defend their independence regardless of the circumstances.
