Guterres supports Ukraine and condemns Russia
UN Secretary-General António Guterres during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the BRICS summit in Kazan reaffirmed his position on Russia's invasion of Ukraine. He stated that this is a violation of the UN Charter and international law.
Guterres also emphasized the importance of freedom of navigation in the Black Sea for Ukraine, Russia, and the world as a whole. He expressed his support for the continuation of negotiations on this issue and expressed gratitude to Turkey for their role in this process.
In addition, other current issues were discussed during the meeting, such as the situation in the Middle East and the need to cease fire in Gaza and Lebanon. Economic development and international finance issues were also raised.
