For the first time in Ukraine, FPV drones on fiber optic tested with a range of over 20 km.

The Ukrainian Defense Technology Cluster Brave1 tested new drones with fiber optic connection
The Ukrainian Defense Technology Cluster Brave1 successfully conducted large-scale tests of new FPV drones with fiber optic connection. These drones are capable of flying over 20 kilometers. This was reported by 'Hlavkom' referring to Brave1 data.
Over 15 manufacturers of drones tested their devices at the testing ground. The fiber optic drones flew several dozen kilometers with obstacles and simulated task execution. Representatives from seven manufacturers of ground robotic systems also tested their developments on fiber optics.
'They showed significant progress: if earlier such drones could only fly 5-10 km, now we successfully tested solutions that can strike targets at a distance of over 20 km', it was reported.
Features of fiber optic FPV drones
FPV drones with fiber optic connection are controlled using an optical cable. The video signal is also transmitted through this cable. Therefore, radio frequencies are not used in controlling such a drone, making it immune to electronic jamming.
Advantages of fiber optic FPV drones
- complete immunity to electronic warfare - drones can perform combat tasks regardless of electronic interference;
- invisibility to the enemy - the lack of radio emissions makes their detection by radio reconnaissance impossible;
- stable and clear communication - reliable video transmission even over long distances;
- absence of radio horizon impact.
Previously, the Main Department of Defense Innovations of the Ministry of Defense had already conducted testing of FPV drones with fiber optic connection for representatives of different branches of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
