Putin Appeared in the Kursk Region, but the Video Raised Doubts

On March 12, 2025, a video surfaced showing Vladimir Putin arriving at the headquarters of the Russian military group in the Kursk region, where he listened to a report from the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Army General Valery Gerasimov. According to Gerasimov's report, Russian troops managed to 'liberate' approximately 86% of the territory of the Kursk region that was previously controlled by Ukrainian forces. However, attentive viewers quickly noticed signs of editing, raising doubts about the authenticity of the recording. This was reported by 'Glavkom' citing posts on social media and official Russian media.

The video shows that Putin's movements appear unnatural, and his face shows signs of digital processing. In addition, the shadows and lighting in the frame do not correspond to real conditions, which further strengthens suspicions of its falsehood. Social media has long speculated that this could be an attempt by the Kremlin to create the illusion of Putin's active participation in managing the country, even if he is not physically present on-site.

Russian Propaganda and Its Technologies

Such cases are not new for Russian propaganda, which often uses technology to create manipulative content. This video has become yet another example of how the Kremlin attempts to control the information space and shape public opinion.

As is known, social media has already criticized his clothing and referred to Putin's camouflage outfit as a bodyguard's costume.

It is worth noting that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has reportedly arrived in Kursk. This was the first Time since the beginning of the Armed Forces of Ukraine's operation in Russian territory.

It should be noted that active hostilities are ongoing in the operational zone of the military group 'Kursk,' in the suburbs of the Russian city of Sudzha and the surrounding areas. This was reported by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi.
