The Security Service of Ukraine announced suspicion against the head of the radiation, chemical, and biological protection troops of the armed forces of the Russian Federation, Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, who is responsible for the use of prohibited chemical weapons against Ukrainian defense forces. This is reported by the SSU.

Under the order of Kirillov, the Russian troops have used chemical munitions more than 4,800 times. The main ones are combat grenades 'K-1', which contain poisonous substances CS and CN, the use of which is prohibited by the Chemical Weapons Convention.

Military hospitals and medical institutions in Ukraine have received about two thousand servicemen of the Defense Forces with chemical poisoning during the war with the Russian Federation.

The main method of using poisonous substances by Russian military forces is the dropping of chemical grenades from FPV drones onto Ukrainian defense positions. These grenades are designed to affect the mucous membranes and respiratory tracts of humans.

The goal of the Russian Federation is to force Ukrainian soldiers to leave their trenches under direct fire. The use of poisonous substances is most often concealed by intense artillery fire in the most active directions of hostilities.

The SSU has identified and handed over to the international Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons grenades containing poisonous substances and soil samples that were collected on the battlefield. Laboratory studies confirmed the use of chemical weapons by the Russian Federation.

Currently, the SSU has notified Kirillov of suspicion for committing a war crime by prior conspiracy of a group of individuals. A pre-trial investigation is being conducted to document other violations by the Russian Federation of international humanitarian law.

In the last month, Russian troops have used prohibited chemical weapons against Ukrainian forces 170 times, including tear gas CS and other substances typically found in police grenades and crowd control measures.

Previously, the organization for the prohibition of chemical weapons confirmed the presence of toxic substances in the combat zone in Dnipropetrovsk region. Russian occupiers are using prohibited chemical weapons, including chloropicrin, to weaken Ukrainian forces and force them to retreat.
