Epiphany Eve: Signs and Prohibitions.


Preparing for the main holiday - Epiphany Eve. This special service is associated with fasting and rituals.
On this day, believers fast and do not eat dairy products, meat, or eggs. They fast until darkness falls and then set the festive table.
One of the essential dishes on the table is kutya. All dishes must be lean. Hostesses prepare lean borscht, cabbage rolls with mushrooms, dumplings with potatoes or cabbage, uzvar, and more.
Traditionally on this evening or the next day, water is consecrated in rivers, ponds, or special reservoirs, cutting a cross in the ice.
Prohibitions on Epiphany Eve:
- It is forbidden to quarrel, insult others, or start conflicts so as not to spoil the evening.
- It is not recommended to do heavy work; at this Time, one should pray and prepare for the holiday.
- Do not let strangers into the house or accept gifts from little-known people.
- Loud celebrations, dancing, singing (except for carols) are considered inappropriate. One should focus on prayer and fasting.
