The popular autumn fruit has noticeably become more expensive in Ukraine.

The price of persimmons rose by a third in November 2024 due to a poor harvest
The cost of persimmons in November 2024 increased by a third compared to the same period last year. Experts explain this price increase by the harvest failure that affected the plantations this year.
The head of the marketing department of the Lviv wholesale agricultural market 'Shuvar', Tetiana Popovych, reported that the average price for a kilogram of persimmons at the 'Shuvar' market is 117.5 hryvnias. This is 34.3% more than during the same period last year, 2023, when persimmons cost 87.5 hryvnias per kilogram.
Ukraine has persimmon plantations, particularly in Transcarpathia. However, the production volumes remain small, so the 'Shuvar' market sells imported persimmons. The main suppliers of persimmons to Ukraine are Turkey, Spain, and Israel.
'The decrease in yields in these countries has directly affected the price increase in the Ukrainian market,' said Tetiana Popovych.
Main factors of persimmon price growth
The main reasons for the price increase, according to the expert, are as follows:
- Weather conditions: Poor harvests in supplying countries due to unfavorable weather conditions led to a decrease in export volumes.
- Rising logistics costs: Increases in fuel prices and transport services have raised the cost of delivering fruits to Ukraine.
- Exchange rate fluctuations: The weakening of the hryvnia against foreign currencies has increased the cost of imported products.
