The UOC MP is prohibited from using the Yelets Monastery in Chernihiv: court decision.


The Supreme Court denied the lawsuit of the eparchy of the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate regarding the Yelets Monastery
On January 16, 2025, the Supreme Court dismissed the lawsuit of the Chernihiv eparchy of the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate regarding the use of the Yelets Monastery. This was reported by the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy.
The case was considered by courts of various instances, and the proceedings lasted almost two years. The final decision in favor of the National Architectural and Historical Reserve 'Ancient Chernihiv' confirmed the position of the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications regarding compliance with legal requirements.
In June 2023, the Commercial Court of Chernihiv region found the use of the property of the Yelets Monastery by the UOC (MP) illegal. In July 2024, the Northern Commercial Court of Appeal confirmed the absence of legal grounds for the Chernihiv eparchy of the UOC to be on the territory of the monastery.
The managers of the cathedral in Kaniv do not have access to the temple
The newly elected managers of the Assumption Cathedral in Kaniv failed a second Time to enter the temple. The commission gathered at the gates of the cathedral to conduct an inspection, but all entrances were locked, reported the director of the Shevchenkivskyi National Reserve, Valentyna Kovalenko.
Parishioners cannot access the temple in the village of Vendychany
The Parish of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos in the village of Vendychany, which is the center of the united community, joined the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC/OCU), but parishioners cannot access the temple, community leaders reported.
