In October, as a result of the war in Ukraine, at least 183 civilians were killed and 903 were injured, according to a UN report.
According to the report, 45% of those killed were elderly, and 9 children were also killed, with 49 injured.
The Russian armed forces are increasingly using unmanned aerial vehicles to attack across the country. Over 1900 such attacks were recorded in the month. As a result of these attacks, 6 civilians were killed and another 21 were injured, with significant damage to civilian property and infrastructure. Frequent attacks and alerts have significantly worsened living conditions for the civilian population.
In October, 80% of civilian casualties occurred near the front line. The highest number of casualties was recorded in the Kherson, Kharkiv, and Donetsk regions. Most casualties and damage to educational and medical facilities occurred in areas controlled by the Ukrainian government.
In October, attacks were also recorded on ports in Ukrainian territory and in the territories occupied by Russia.
Ukrainian human rights defenders presented evidence of Russian war crimes
Ukrainian human rights defenders at the UN revealed details of Russian war crimes against civilians. They reported that Russia systematically carried out politically motivated persecutions in the occupied territories of Crimea and Donbas, as well as in other temporarily occupied areas. Since the occupation of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions, the Russian military together with the FSB compiled lists of individuals who needed to be eliminated.
