In Kharkiv, Serpova Street has been renamed to 'Kraken' Street
The name of Serpova Street in the Shevchenkivskyi district of Kharkiv has been changed to 'Kraken' Street. This was reported on the official website of the Kharkiv City Council.
The decision to rename was made at an extraordinary session of the city council on February 5.
The reconnaissance and sabotage unit 'Kraken' is part of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
The deputy commander of the third assault brigade, Maksym Zhorin, commented on the renaming of the street. He noted that the 'Kraken' unit was created by his friends and brothers-in-arms from Kharkiv and emphasized that it is a right step to replace Soviet names in honor of modern heroes protecting the future of Ukraine.
Zhorin also noted that the 'Kraken' unit has already done a lot to protect the city.
In addition, the deputies of the Kharkiv City Council excluded the toponyms 'Sokilnyky' and 'Pomyrky' from the list of city names because there is no data about these names in the Unified Address Register of the city.
It is worth noting that 13 city objects were renamed in Kyiv. Eight of them were renamed for the purpose of decommunization, and five – for other reasons. The decision was supported by the majority of Kyiv Council deputies at the plenary session on September 19.
