Zelensky on the situation in Sumy and efforts to achieve peace
In his address on March 24, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced that a rescue operation is underway in Sumy following the Russian strike. The State Emergency Service, National Police, medical and utility services are involved in the work. According to the President's data, nearly 90 people have been injured as a result of the attack, including 17 children. Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that the war was brought by Russia, and it is Russia that must be forced to peace.
'Every such day, all nights with Russian rockets and drones against our country, every day of war - these are losses, this is pain, this is destruction that Ukraine never wanted. The war was brought by Russia, and it is to Russia that the war must be pushed back - it is them that must be forced to peace.'
The President also reported on the convening of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief's Staff, where issues concerning the training of Ukrainian soldiers were discussed. Deputy Commander-in-Chief Oleg Apostol spoke about the implementation of modern training methods and a psychological support program. Special attention was paid to the contract service program for young people aged 18-24.
Zelensky noted the diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving peace. Negotiations were held with Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, a meeting with the American delegation, and negotiations between representatives of the USA and Russia. The President emphasized that to force Russia to peace, sanctions, support for Ukraine, and international coordination are necessary. Joint work with European partners on security issues is also planned.
