Ukrainian poet, musician, and serviceman of the 13th brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine Khartia, Serhiy Zhadan announced the death of his aunt - poetess Oleksandra Kovalova.
According to Serhiy Zhadan's announcement, Oleksandra Kovalova was a Ukrainian poet, translator, teacher, and public figure.
Oleksandra Prokopivna Kovalova passed away at the age of 75. She was known under several pseudonyms, such as Olesya Shepitko, Alex Schmidt, and Sandra Flusterling.
Biography of Oleksandra Kovalova
Oleksandra Prokopivna Kovalova was born on November 28, 1948, in the Luhansk region. She graduated from the Faculty of Foreign Languages of Kharkiv State University and earned a candidate degree in philology. She also worked as a lecturer at the Faculty of Foreign Philology of Kharkiv National Pedagogical University.
Oleksandra Kovalova's works have been translated into English, Moldovan, and German languages.
Among Kovalova's poetry collections are works such as "Steppe Lakes", "Horizons", "For Two Voices", "Alphabet of Kindness", and many others. She also wrote prose books such as "The Triple Blessed Tree" and "Ovlur and Other Stories".
Oleksandra Kovalova also engaged in translations from German, translating such authors as P.P. Wipplinger, Walter Zagorka, and Manfred Schwab. She also compiled and translated poetry anthologies.
Oleksandra Kovalova was awarded numerous literary prizes, including the Nuremberg City Scholarship, the Kost Hordiyenko Award, the Kharkiv Regional Award named after O. Maselsky, and the Berezil magazine award.
