A 21-year-old scout died near Toretsk. Remember Oleksii Kalinchuk.


Ukrainians honor the victims of the Russian-Ukrainian war every day at 9 am. Today we remember Oleksii Kalinchuk, a Ukrainian warrior who died defending our country.
On October 20, a farewell ceremony for Oleksii Kalinchuk took place in the village of Shepiivka, Ivanivska community. He died near the city of Toretsk in the Donetsk region. Kalinchuk was a military scout and belonged to the 120th Separate Reconnaissance Battalion.
Oleksii Kalinchuk was only 21 years old and had his whole life ahead of him. His last journey was accompanied by flowers and tears.
Former teachers of Shepiivka General School gathered to pay tribute to their former student. They remembered Oleksii as a talented and active boy. They were all moved by the news of his death.
People from different villages along the route of the funeral procession also came to honor Oleksii Kalinchuk. They laid flowers on the road the procession took. Even in Zhuhalivske settlement, a corridor of honor formed for the warrior.
Oleksii lived on a street renamed in honor of one of his neighbors who also died in the war. These two heroes are buried next to each other.
At the farewell ceremony for Oleksii, a priest from the Orthodox Church of Ukraine delivered a speech. The Church of the Moscow Patriarchate provided its church for the ceremony.
Before being called up for military service, Oleksii prepared at Tulchyn Lyceum with enhanced military-physical training. He decided to become a defender of his native country when Russia aggressively attacked Ukraine.
We will not forget the heroes who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of Ukraine. By honoring their memory, we cherish national mourning.
