Extreme Weather in Austria: Rains Destroy Two Dams, Some Settlements Flooded.

In Austria, heavy and prolonged rains have led to the breach of two dams. As a result, several settlements were flooded. ORF reports this.
It is noted that Lower Austria suffered the most from the extreme weather conditions. Thus, as a result of severe flooding, entire settlements were underwater. Currently, the weather situation continues to worsen.
«According to emergency services, the first dams, including in Gadersdorf and Pottenbrunn, have been breached. The population is being evacuated, and assistance is sometimes only possible from the air», – the publication reports.
Around 10,000 emergency service workers have been involved in rescue operations in Lower Austria. They are rescuing people from rooftops, pumping water out of houses, and clearing roads of fallen trees.
Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer added that more than 2,000 military personnel have been deployed to assist the rescuers.
«The situation remains serious, and the situation – especially in Lower Austria – is extremely difficult. Thousands of firefighters and other emergency services are battling the floods. The disaster relief forces are working very cohesively, including in all regions, and the Austrian armed forces are already deployed in the amount of 2,400 military personnel», – he said on the social network X.
In addition, ORF writes that army helicopters are being used to drop sandbags to block one of the breached dams.
It is noted that due to the flooding, about 100 roads, including federal highways and two autobahns near Vienna - the Southern (A2) and Western (A1) - have been flooded. In the eastern region, there are disruptions in public transport, including the railway. In Vienna, two metro lines are also partially out of service due to flooding. Authorities are urging residents to avoid unnecessary trips and walks. In several schools, students were allowed not to attend classes on Monday.
According to meteorologists' forecasts, heavy rains in eastern Austria will last at least until Tuesday.
Recall that on Saturday, September 14, in several Central European countries, emergency services and even army units are assisting residents suffering from extreme weather events. Cyclone «Boris» brought heavy rains, strong winds, and even snowfalls to some regions in Austria, Czechia, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, and Poland.
