Wildfire breaks out north of Los Angeles: people forced to evacuate.

A wildfire broke out in the Castaic Lake area of Los Angeles County, covering an area of 20 square kilometers. According to Reuters, this forced people to evacuate.

Officials from Los Angeles County reported that over 19,000 residents of Castaic were forced to leave their homes, and another 16,000 received evacuation warnings.

Helicopters were used in the fight against the fire, drawing water from the lake and pouring it on the flames. Due to poor visibility, Highway 5, which passes through the fire area, was closed.

It was also reported earlier that a fire whirl occurred in Los Angeles.

It is reminded that this fire led to the evacuation of city residents. Mandatory evacuation was particularly necessary in the prestigious part of the city, Pacific Palisades, where many famous Americans live. The fire spreads quickly due to strong winds, covering an area equivalent to five football fields in a minute.

Size of the fire and consequences

Since January 7, these fires have ravaged an area nearly equal to the District of Columbia. A total of 28 people died, and over 16,000 buildings were destroyed or damaged. At one point, an evacuation order was issued for 180,000 people.
