Billionaire Charles Dolan, founder of HBO and Cablevision, has died at age 98.


98-year-old American billionaire Charles Dolan has passed away. He was the founder of many television companies, including Home Box Office (HBO) and Cablevision Systems. This was reported by the American newspaper Newsday.
«With deep sadness, we announce the death of our beloved father and patriarch Charles Dolan, the visionary founder of HBO and Cablevision», – reads a statement from his family.
In 1972, Dolan founded the cable television Home Box Office, which is now known as HBO. He also founded the Cablevision company, which provided television and internet services in the northeastern USA. In 2016, Dolan sold Cablevision to the European company Altice for $17 billion.
Under his leadership, the American Movie Classics channel was launched in 1984. He also launched the first 24-hour cable channel News 12 in New York.
Dolan was the founder and chairman of the Lustgarten Foundation in New York, which was involved in pancreatic cancer research.
According to Forbes, at the Time of his death, Charles Dolan and his family had a net worth of $5.4 billion.
Charles Dolan left behind six children, 19 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. His wife Helen Ann Dolan passed away in 2023.
