Musk Transforms Conspiracy Theory into State Policy

Since Elon Musk bought Twitter in 2022, he has delighted his fans with wild conspiracy theories from supposed secret documents. But now, with Donald Trump back in office, Musk's theories are not just entertainment for internet activists. Their fantasies have become a reason for government paralysis, reports The Atlantic.

One striking example of this transformation is the case involving the U.S. social security system. Musk posted a screenshot claiming that 'millions of people over the age of 120' are receiving payments. This claim went viral, even though the Social Security Administration quickly explained that it was a technical artifact, not actual payments.

Despite the refutation, President Trump used this claim in his speech before Congress, stating that abuses in the social security system are widespread. This became grounds for possible cuts to the social protection program.

The methodology Musk employs is similar to his 'Twitter Files' project, where he published internal Twitter documents and tried to prove the existence of a conspiracy against conservatives. His own lawyers later refuted allegations against the government and Twitter.

Now, Musk is using similar tactics to 'uncover' alleged corruption within government structures: extracting data from government expenditure databases, disseminating this data without context, creating outrage among supporters, and using this outrage to cut programs or fire officials.

Disclosing internal emails and other documents turns ordinary corporate processes into conspiracies, elevating political debates to high drama.

International Aspect and Consequences

Particularly alarming is the international aspect of these manipulations. After criticizing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House, Musk spread misinformation claiming that Ukraine is using the American social security system.

This practice may lead to a systemic government crisis, as instead of reforms for increased efficiency, the capacity of the government to operate is being dismantled.

Risk of Government Crisis

Analysts warn that the phrase 'Now we are the media', which originates from Musk's supporters, is transforming into a dangerous reality: 'Musk and his allies are now the government'.

If their decisions are based on misleading interpretations, society may face a government crisis.
