Maria Matios – 65. Biography of the Prominent Ukrainian Writer.


Ukrainian writer Maria Matios celebrates her 65th birthday. She published a post on Facebook dedicated to her celebration.
«Today I am – by passport, but not in spirit – only 65. Allow me, God, to breathe, walk, see, understand, think, love, create, fight, grieve, wonder, cherish, dream, cry, hope, laugh, forgive, help, empathize, remember, be amazed, and so much more – as much as Your will allows, Lord», – wrote the writer.
Biography of Maria Matios
Maria Matios hails from Bukovina and has deep roots in ethnography since 1790. She first published poems when she was 15 years old. She graduated from the Faculty of Ukrainian Language and Literature at Chernivtsi National University.
Maria Matios began her professional career as the responsible secretary of the «Bukovynian Journal» and the Chernivtsi Regional Organization of the Union of Writers of Ukraine. She also worked in the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine. In 1992, she debuted as a prose writer, publishing her work in the magazine «Kyiv».
Maria Matios is the author of several poetry collections, but her prose works have brought her recognition, many of which have been translated into foreign languages. Her novel «Sweet Darusia» became a national bestseller, won the Shevchenko Prize, and reveals important themes of historical tragedy, human evil, and good.
Maria Matios has won the «Book of the Year» competition three times. Her novels are often adapted for theatrical productions and are popular among readers.
Previously, Maria Matios advised Ukrainians to read more and use various sources of information instead of limiting themselves to television. She noted that many women are waiting for their husbands from the front, while media attention is focused on other people.
