Hezbollah is both an armed group and a political party that controls many areas with a Shia population in southern Lebanon. The group is designated as a terrorist organization in Israel and the United States, while the EU considers its military wing to be terrorist.
According to reports from the Israeli army, about 450 Hezbollah members, including 30 commanders of various ranks, were killed during the ground operation in Lebanon.
On September 27, Israel conducted a large-scale airstrike on Hezbollah's headquarters in Beirut, resulting in the death of the organization's leader Hassan Nasrallah.
During the escalation of the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, amid high casualties and security threats in the region, the Lebanese group Hezbollah elected Hashim Safi al-Din as its new leader following Hassan Nasrallah's death.
However, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that the new leader of Hezbollah, Hashim Safi al-Din, was also eliminated during an airstrike in Beirut on October 4.
