The former FBI informant confessed to distorting testimony regarding Joe Biden and his son's bribery

Former FBI informant Oleksandr Smirnov entered a plea agreement. He is charged with distorting testimony and falsifying records regarding bribery that President Joe Biden and his son Hunter are supposed to be accused of. This was reported by CNN, citing a statement from a California court.

According to the court statement, Smirnov pleads guilty to four counts, including tax evasion and obstruction of justice for providing false information to the FBI.

This means that Smirnov admits that his accusations of illegally receiving a $5 million bribe from the Ukrainian company Burisma to President Biden when he was vice president, and to his son Hunter, are false.

According to CNN, as a result of the court proceedings, the case will nearly be closed. The prosecutor and the defendant demand that Smirnov receive a prison sentence of 4 to 6 years.

Smirnov claimed that Burisma's leadership hired Hunter Biden in 2015-2016 for protection during an investigation against him. His testimony sparked an investigation by Republicans in Congress and also the impeachment of President Biden initiated by the House of Representatives.

In 2024, special prosecutor David Weiss accused Smirnov of spreading false information about the involvement of President Joe Biden and his son Hunter in the affairs with Burisma.
