The United Kingdom imposes sanctions on Russia's 'shadow fleet'
As part of its fight against Ukraine, the United Kingdom plans to introduce sanctions against about 100 oil tankers from the so-called 'shadow fleet' of Russia. This information is expected to be announced during the meeting of the leaders of the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) in Norway, reports Reuters.
According to the British government, these vessels have transported goods worth over 24 billion dollars since the beginning of last year. Some of them have also been involved in damaging critical infrastructure.
The office of Prime Minister Keir Starmer noted that this will be the largest sanctions package from the UK against the RF's shadow fleet. JEF, established in 2014, unites 10 Northern European countries and acts as an addition to cooperation through the NATO military alliance.
Reaction and stance of the JEF countries
The JEF countries, led by the United Kingdom, continue to support Ukraine and fight against Russia's actions. Norway, which is hosting the summit, emphasizes its gas supplies to Europe, making it a key player in the region.
