Nasa astronauts Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams have returned to Earth after a nine-month stay aboard the International Space Station (ISS). Their mission began on June 5, 2024, and was initially planned as an eight-day flight to test the new Boeing Starliner spacecraft. However, due to technical issues with the spacecraft, their return was delayed.

The astronauts returned to Earth in the SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule, which landed in the American/Mexican Gulf near Florida.

Together with Wilmore and Williams, NASA astronaut Nick Hague and Russian cosmonaut Alexander Gorbunov returned, both of whom had been on the ISS since September 2024.

During their Time aboard the station, Williams set a record for the longest spacewalk among women, spending 62 hours during nine spacewalks.

Despite the delay, the astronauts continued to conduct scientific experiments and maintain the station's operations.

After their return, the astronauts will undergo medical examinations and adapt to the gravitational conditions on Earth before reuniting with their families.

On March 12, NASA and SpaceX canceled the Crew-10 mission to the ISS due to a problem during launch.

The SpaceX spacecraft arrived at the ISS to pick up two astronauts. Barry Wilmore and Sunita Williams embarked on a test mission to the ISS in June 2024 and have not yet been able to return.

SpaceX lost the Starship spacecraft again during a test flight. The Starship system launched from the SpaceX launch pad in Texas but experienced engine shutdowns eight minutes into the flight while the spacecraft was still accelerating into space.
